Colleagues,
At a recent ECVnet meeting in Paris concerned with performance
characterization in vision, I mentioned some ideas about online
publishing in a talk. This intrigued Patrick Courtney, so together he
and I have looked at the whole issue of electronic publishing in the
context of computer vision, pattern recognition, and image analysis.
The product of these deliberations is an essay
Vision Online: Electronic Publishing for Computer Vision
in which we weigh the pros and cons of the idea and come out, not
surprisingly, in favour of online journals. The essay is available on
the World-Wide Web via the URL
http://peipa.essex.ac.uk/vision-online/
I encourage you to read the essay, to respond to our points, and
generally to discuss the topic. We are happy to receive negative
responses as well as positive ones.
To make your points, please send email to
vision-online@essex.ac.uk
and not to me personally (though I will forward any messages that I
receive to it). The messages are automagically linked into the
abovementioned WWW page so that the deliberations are available for
all to see.
Please do read the essay and let us know what you think.
..Adrian
