ATTENTION: ACADEMIC APPOINTMENTS
1. The Faculty/School of Cognitive Science and Human Development
of the University of Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Kuching, MALAYSA
invites applications, from academics preferably with doctoral degrees
(applicants with a Masters degree with appropriate experience will
also be considered), to join the Faculty.
2. The Faculty focuses on the study of Cognitive Science (which
includes Neuroscience, Psychology, Artificial Intelligence,
Philosophy, Linguistics and Anthropology) and its application in the
following areas:
7 Intelligent Learning Systems and devices.
7 Teaching, Learning and Training
7 Manufacturing Industries (e.g. Automobiles, Aeroplanes, Household
appliances, etc.)
7 Communication and Publication products
7 Multimedia (computer, and electronic based)
7 Medical Technology and appliances
7 Defence Technology
7 Computational Linguistics
7 Voice recognition
7 Architectural, Graphical and Industrial designs
7 Human Resource Development and cognition in the work place
7 Teaching of English as a Second Language (TESL) and CALL (Computer
Assisted Language Learning)
7 Cognitive Processes and Human Development
7 Virtual Reality
7 Cognition and Spiritual development
3. Since AI techniques permeate all research activities in the
Faculty, applicants must have knowledge in AI or in Computation.
4. All applications must submit their latest C.V. to the Faculty
either through the email or by fax. Short listed candidates will be
interviewed at a location which they will be informed of later.
5. Successful candidates are expected to perform the following
functions:
(i). Teach and supervise students
(ii) Conduct research and publish papers
(iii) Conduct consultancy work
(iv) Attend conferences and present papers
(v) Other duties that are related to academic work.
6. Remuneration
(i) Salary ranges from RM2708.00 to RM9904.00 depending on
qualification and experience. (RM2.5 = US.$1.00)
(ii) Return air tickets for family
(iii) Subsidised Medical and Dental services
(iv) Subsidised Housing Rent
(v) Annual Holidays of 30 days
(vi) Gratuity
(vii) Car and Computer Loan currently at 4% interest rate
7. Kuching, the capital city of SARAWAK, close to which the
University is located, is neither too big nor small but is
environmentally clean and has all the necessary essentials and more.
In addition, Kuching and Sarawak are full of interesting places to
visit.
8. The University, though new, has all the necessary facilities
available for academic work. It is contemporary in nature but
futuristic in outlook. Academics who are innovative, creative and
futuristic in outlook will certainly find UNIMAS the place for them
and UNIMAS welcomes such scholars. Together we can work to realise our
