PhD studentship available:
Parallel Integrated Methodology for Calibrated Colour Machine Vision
with Industrial Applications
There is a need to develop methodology for the definition and solution
of colour-related imaging problems, integrating colour calibration and
data transformation, together with efficient implementation on
parallel systems. The techniques will be evaluated in important
generic industrial applications, by developing suitable demonstrator
systems. Potential collaborators include industrial end-users and
machine vision suppliers. This project will provide research training
in image analysis and parallel computing, together with experience of
liaising with industry.
The student will join an active research group of students and
postdoctoral researchers. Current work includes: image feature
extraction and measurement, with applications in microbiological and
holographic imaging; the development of parallel algorithms for image
analysis and other engineering applications; parallel compiler
technology; the use of programmable hardware; numerical modelling of
heatflow.
The research group has links with other departments, and there is
collaboration with UK and other European research institutes and
universities. The research is supported by Research Council and
European funding. We work in an integrated Engineering Department,
allowing cross-fertilisation between a range of disciplines. The
research environment includes Unix workstations, PCs, multiprocessor
systems, and electronic CAD facilities and workshops.
The studentship (funded by the University of Aberdeen) is available for
three years, commencing October 1996, and covers tuition fees for UK/EC
students and standard maintenance payments.
Applicants should have, or expect, an honours degree (first or upper
second class) or MSc in electronic engineering, computer science, or
related subjects.
