UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA (UCF) COMPUTER SCIENCE GRADUATE PROGRAMS
The UCF Department of Computer Science is currently seeking applicants
for both its Ph.D. and Master's programs. UCF is a young and dynamic
institution with a student population of approximately 28,000. The
campus of UCF, located thirteen miles east of downtown Orlando,
consists of 1,227 acres of land, much of which is covered with pine,
palm, cypress, cedar, and oak trees. The Department of Computer
Science currently has 23 full-time faculty and approximately 150
graduate students. Students receive a broad background in the areas
of programming systems and languages, computer architecture, and
computer science theory before specializing in a research area.
Research interests of the faculty include parallel computing, VLSI,
artificial intelligence, computer vision, networking technology,
graphics and simulation, databases, and design and analysis of
algorithms.
Orlando is at the center of Florida's strong software development
industry. Our campus is adjacent to the Central Florida Research Park
which houses the Naval Training Systems Center, the Army's Simulation,
Training, and Instrument Command, and several industrial
organizations. Computer Science faculty work closely with these
groups and with the NASA Kennedy Space Center, located within 50 miles
of the campus. In addition, the faculty are significantly involved in
the Institute for Simulation and Training (IST) and the Center for
Research and Education in Optics and Lasers (CREOL).
The Department offers teaching and research assistantships to
qualified applicants. Stipends range from $7,200 to $11,000 for the
academic year depending upon qualifications and the availability of
funding. Several enhanced stipends providing an additional $5,000
will be available for exceptional applicants.
For more information, please visit our department web site at
"www.cs.ucf.edu". Questions concerning our graduate programs should be
directed to Ms. Kari Mitchell, the Graduate Program Secretary.
