MULTIMEDIA DATABASES AND HUMAN INTERACTION
Post-doctoral researcher

Applications are invited for a position as a post-doctoral researcher in
the Computer Vision Group, Centre Universitaire d'Informatique (CUI),
University of Geneva in Switzerland. The successful applicant will join
a team of researchers working on algorithms, data structures and image
representations for the content-based retrieval of images and video
sequences from large databases.
There is a particular emphasis in this project on the interaction of the
user with the database, and the use of user-provided information
(relevance feedback, etc.) for the design and incremental improvement of
the database system, on a variety of time-scales.
The candidate is expected to have a doctorate in computer science or a
closely related field, and to have a strong background in multimedia
indexing (especially video). Experience in any of the following areas is
also desirable: document retrieval, pattern or object recognition, image
statistics, machine learning, database organization, psychophysics.
The expertise and experience of the ideal applicant should fit the
following profile in decreasing order of importance:
* multimedia indexing (especially video)
o information retrieval
o pattern recognition
o machine learning
o computer vision
Experience in software development using C/C++ and Java is desirable.

LANGUAGE:
Good knowledge of either French or English is mandatory. French is the
spoken language in Geneva so some knowledge of French is beneficial.
The candidate should be willing to learn some French.

organizations, such as the UN and the Red Cross, so transport
links are excellent.

DURATION:
The position will start as soon as it is filled, and should last one
year. A continuation may be possible for another year.
