Post doctoral position at the IMEDIA Group of INRIA Rocquencourt
Topic: Content-Based Image Indexing and Retrieval
Everyday, we face a growing flow of multimedia information, particularly
via the internet. But this ocean of information would be useless without
the ability to manipulate, classify, archive and access them quickly and
selectively. While text indexing is ubiquitous, it is often limited,
tedious and subjective for describing image content. However multimedia
is dominated by images, with respect to bandwidth and complexity. We
have developed Surfimage at IMEDIA Group which is a user-friendly,
generic and flexible content-based image retrieval system. Surfimage
uses the query-by-example approach for retrieving images and integrates
advanced features such as image signature combination, classification,
multiple queries and query refinement.
Our research focus recently on spatially-localized features and region
matching. Indeed, the user is most often interested in performing a
query on an object (or region), rather than on the whole image. The goal
of the system is then to retrieve those images in the database that
contain similar objects. In this context, we have to develop new image
signature based specially on a unified color texture feature. Spatial
relations of multiple partial queries have then to be modeled.
