JOB: Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Waterloo (Canada)

Prof. David A. Clausi, Professor in the Department of Systems Design
Engineering at the renowned University of Waterloo (www.uwaterloo.ca
) (Canada), is looking for a post-doctoral fellow
(PDF) in the field of computer vision.

The project involves the automated interpretation of remotely sensed
imagery, with an emphasis on operational classification of satellite radar
(SAR) sea ice imagery. The research is conducted in direct cooperation with
the Canadian Ice Service (CIS), the agency responsible for monitoring ice
under Canadian jurisdiction for both navigational (hazard avoidance) and
environmental (e.g. global warming) applications. CIS has an active interest
in the use of automated algorithms for classification of SAR sea ice
imagery, and this supports an applied research environment.

Interested people should have knowledge in fields such as computer vision,
image segmentation, and pattern recognition. Experience in remote sensing
systems is desirable, but not a pre-requisite. We are focusing our efforts
on novel Markov image models for both segmentation and classification and
experience using such approaches is an asset. The techniques can be applied
to other remote sensing imagery and we are interested in making more
research progress in such fields.

A leadership role to help direct the current research efforts of graduate
students is part of the position, should the incumbent desire such an
opportunity.

Full funding is available. Awardees will be part of the Vision and Image
Processing (VIP) research group at the
University of Waterloo. Candidates need a solid grasp of the English
language to competently communicate with the research team and publish
research results.

For additional information and/or to submit a CV, email Prof. Clausi
directly (dclausi@engmail.uwaterloo.ca). Please provide the contact
information (mailing addresses and email) for at least three references.
