The Vislist Digest began as a moderated mailing list in 1982 as a conversant forum for topics spanning Computer Vision, Image Processing, and related topics. The Vislist Digest is also distributed as the internet newsgroup COMP.AI.VISION. The Vislist Archive was added as a community service providing on-line access to needed resources.
The Vislist Digest is intended to embrace discussion on a wide range of vision topics, including physiological theory, computer vision, machine vision and image processing algorithms, vision techniques to support robot navigation and spatial representation, artificial intelligence and neural network techniques applied to vision, industrial applications, robotic eyes, implemented systems, ideas, profound thoughts; anything related to vision and its automation is fair game.
Since the Vislist began, vision and image processing has greatly matured. The universe of possibility is rapidly growing, and commercial viability has arrived. To accompany these changes, the Vislist is in the process of being reinvented.
In the past, the Vislist has been distributed as a flat ASCII newsgroup format. The Vislist is currently being reworked into a hypertext web format to automate the submitting and rating of digest and archive content; organizing and searching of articles, archive data, meetings and Calls for Papers, jobs, and other content; automatic notification and administrative features. We're into new territory here, and all feedback and volunteers are welcome.
There are three mechanisms for receiving the Vision List:
Via the web at www.vislist.com. This
is by far the best way to access the full resources the Vislist has to offer.
Via the newsgroup COMP.AI.VISION.
If you don't know how to determine if this newsgroup is available to you,
please ask your local systems administrator.
If you do not have access to either of the above,
you can be added to the Vislist master mailing list by sending
email to moderator@vislist.com.
The Vislist Digest has been an important forum for announcing Calls for Papers, meetings, courses, and other timely information for those interested in vision and image processing. Current efforts are underway to automatically produce a calendar of events, and then to allow more general searches for particular meetings and calls for papers.
The Vislist Digest has also been an important site for announcing positions for workers in computer vision and image processing. Current efforts are underway to better organize job listing postings and searches, and then to allow more general searches based upon the kind of job, place of employment, and other job info.

The Vislist FTP Archives contain imagery, bibliographies and references (including Rosenfeld's comprehensive computer vision biblios), shareware, and Vislist backissues. From a web browser, enter the URL ftp://ftp.vislist.com. Ftp program access is obtained by anonymous ftp to ftp.vislist.com.
The Vislist Archives include various imagery of use to workers in computer vision and image processing. This imagery includes calibrated stereo sequences, extended densely sampled motion sequences, multiview object imagery, etc. For access, see ftp://ftp.vislist.com/IMAGERY.
The Vislist Archives provide references and bibliographies of use to workers in computer vision and image processing. Rosenfeld's extensive computer vision bibliographies in electronic format from 1984-present may be found on the Archive at ftp://ftp.vislist.com/ROSENFELD-BIBLIOGRAPHIES. General references and biblios may be found in ftp://ftp.vislist.com/REFS-AND-BIBLIOGRAPHIES.
The Vislist Archives include shareware made available to the computer vision and image processing communities. For ftp access, see ftp://ftp.vislist.com/SHAREWARE.
The Vislist Archives contain backissues of the Vislist Digest from 1988-present. Ftp access to ASCII backissues is available from ftp://ftp.vislist.com/BACKISSUES. Web access to backissues is available by pressing the "VOLUMES" button on the Vislist Digest website at http://www.vislist.com.
